New Flies From Jr.

Not only is fishing for bass and panfish one of the finest ways to fly fish but coming up with new flies makes the experience complete. We all have tried and true flies that we love to fish and consistently produce fish. However, when we know we have an ace in our back pocket we just have to try something new. It is this drive that gets our cognitive wheels turning. We sit down at the tying vise come up with a pattern and then hit the water with it. We see what worked or didn't and refine the pattern. Eventually, we tweak the pattern to where it becomes one of our "tried and true" patterns. Then we start all over again.

Jr. has to be one of the most prolific fly tiers I know. He is always coming up with something new and likes to focus on warmwater flies. He has two new patterns that he is having lots of fun fishing this summer; The Pill Popper and The Micro-Mini Frog. I will be heading out this Friday with Jr. to fish some of these flies and will have more photos of these flies in action. I might even scrape out some time for some video of the action of these flies. Regardless of how we do this Friday, we have plans to record these flies in the next week and will soon have some tying videos for everyone.

SMP Video

Warmwater Chronicles has just published it's latest tying video. The SMP (Skip Morris Panfish) fly is a fantastic bluegill fly. It is no coincidence that we have published a video on this particular fly. Since The Fiberglass Manifesto has declared this the Year of The Bluegill we thought it only fitting that we do a video on a great Bluegill fly. so this video goes out to Cameron and the Fiberglass Manifesto and all bluegill lovers that love to catch feisty fish on a warm summer day.

The SMP is a fantastic Go To fly for all sorts of panfish, big and small. It even catches some nice Smallmouth Bass. Tie some of these up and don't leave home without them.

Keep an eye on WWC as I will soon be posting some Bluegill photos recently caught on the SMP. Just to prove that it does work!

Cecil’s Sparkle Pheasant Tail Video

Here is another fly tying video for all you bluegill fans. Cecil ties up the Sparkle Pheasant Tail Nymph which he claims is the world best bluegill fly. Cecil does a great job of explaining each step as well as variations that are also effective. He actually shows two versions of this fly, the original as it was shown to him and his version that he has had great success with.

As we do with all of our video sessions, We had a lot of fun recording this and this time we decided to share some of the outtakes with our audience. As important as fly fishing is in the grand scheme, like all other things you have to keep it in perspective and have fun. Which we do! – Enjoy.

Don’t Forget The Dill

Pickle that is….

If you are a fan of warmwater panfish on a fly rod then you need to make certain you have some Dill Pickles with you whenever you head out to you favorite water hole. The Dill Pickle is an easy fly to tie, can easily be modified to meet your fishing needs and catches fish. Here Cecil ties up a classic Dill that he says is one of his best bluegill flies.
