You gotta love people who just have fun with life. Sure, fly fishing is more important than most things in life (spouse and family being about the only things more important) but that does not mean you can not, or should not, have a little fun with it.

Brian Wise is well know for some great tying videos that are both entertaining and instructive. In this latest video he has once again uped the game on the entertaining end of the scale for fly tying videos. I think it is not only great that his wife ties flies with him but she has a great sense of humor. Gonna tie up some Trophy Wives (would that be the correct plural) this weekend.

Trailer Park Trash

I posted about a week ago about the 30 Days of Tying project on Stream2Stream.net. Justin asked me for some help with this project earlier in the month and was more than glad to lend a hand. About two weeks ago he and I managed some time to film him tying his Trailer Park Trash fly.

It seems, with everything else going on (including Thanksgiving), he did get the footage put together into a nice video. So, without further delay… here is the Trailer Park Trash.

New Smallmouth DVD

John Ray and Kevin Feenstra have put together a new DVD and lucky for us this one is a warmwater one. Big Appetite Small Mouth is all about smallmouth bass. Everyone knows you can't get enough smallmouth _ass.

I have not seen the DVD yet but have one on the way. I will be writing a review just as soon as I get it… and watch it first of course. In the mean time, drool over the trailer and dream of your own copy.

Cecil’s Triple H

We are defiantly in the long dog days of summer. The waters are low and warm, the evenings are long and the fishing is slow and consistent. Sometimes at this time of year the usual poppers and sliders do not produce as well. Sometimes you need to throw something the fish have not seen.

Lucky for you, Cecil has shared just such a fly with us. Cecil's Triple H is a fun fly to tie and produces very well in slow currents where grasshoppers fall into the water. The triple H is a great hopper patterns so even for those who like to fish for critters in colder waters can use this as a hopper terrestrial pattern.

However, it really shines as a panfish fly when tied in smaller sizes. Bluegill, Redear, and Pumpkinseeds just can't resist this fly on hot summer evening. Plus, the fly is a lot of fun to tie. Tie up a number in different sizes so you have some for any occasion.

Cecil Guidry’s Hellboy

The wait is over! This past month we got Cecil in to make a video of tying his famous Hellboy. Jr. says this fly is only good for catching bluegill but I have witnessed first hand a number of nice smallmouth fall victim to the action of this fly. The Hellboy is not a complicated pattern (wait until you see Cecil's Hellgrammite pattern) but it has endless possibilities.

Grab your popcorn and soda and get ready to watch the Hellboy. By the way, Ron Perlman does not make any appearance in this video. He is in that other video by the same name.

Another Jr. HPU Weedless Fly

Jr. recently tied up his HPU Weedless Sculpin for the video camera. This is a great fly even when tied in a conventional style. However, Jr. has adapted this pattern for the HPU Weedless Fly method developed by Derrick Filkins. I look forward to fishing this fly this summer for some of the great smallmouth bass around central Indiana. Thanks Jr.!

Jr.’s Foam Frog

Jr. Burke and I recently sat down and filmed him tying his legendary Foam Frog fly. This thing looks like it could jump out of the vise and according to Jr. it rides in the water just like a real frog an comes alive when stripped. I was amazed at how simple this pattern is to tie. I can not wait to get some of these on the water this summer.
